A big misunderstanding that people have is that to lose weight you need to starve yourself. Teen have this problem the most and a lot of girls have periods where they eat a lot and periods when they don´t eat at all. This kind of a situation has to be avoided. Cutting your calories very low does not help you lose weight at all in the long-term. Because the less food you eat the less calories you actually burn. When you eat very little then your body automatically thinks you are starving so your body saves energy by slowing down your metabolism and holding on to your fat. The less you eat the harder and harder your body holds on to the fat. Be very careful with your calories, only reduce your calories by 15-20% at first

Exercise has to be part of your daily schedule. Some teen girls do not like to exercise at all but after they have done it for a few weeks, and see great results, then they start liking it. The first 2-3 weeks are essential, because research has shown that changing your habits from bad to good takes about that long. Make exercising a habit that you will never give up. You can start with 3-4 times a week of 20-25 minute aerobic workouts. It does not matter if you start with brisk walking, jogging, biking or something else, what matters is that you are taking action. And also do not forget weight training, because weight training helps you maintain muscle mass. And muscle is a great calorie burner
